LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – World Bank (WB) executives convened with the Alcala onion growers multi-purpose cooperative and the provincial government officials on June 6, 2019, held at the Alcala Training Center.
“Kung atin pong aalalahanin, inumpisahan po ni dating Gobernador Amado T. Espino, Jr. ang mga programa hindi lamang para ating mga onion-growers kung hindi’y para sa lahat ng ating magsasakang Pangasinense, itong mga programang ito ay ipinagpapatuloy po ng ating Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino III. Please know that the provincial government is always here to support our local farmers,” said 5th District Board Member Chinky Perez-Tababa in behalf or Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino III.
“We are so excited to be here and learn more, and see how we can further improve the projects here in your province,” expressed World Bank Task Team Leader Ms. Frauke Jungbluth.
Alcala Onion Growers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AOGMPC) is an agricultural cooperative in the municipality of Alcala that deals with production and marketing of onions. The cooperative is one of the 30 qualified groups in the province who received interventions under the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) and the provincial government.
“Mayroon na po tayong natulungang 31 groups sa buong probinsya, kasama na po rito ang ang Alcala Onion Growers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AOGMPC),” said Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya in an interview with the media.
Prov. Agriculturist Moya also said that these interventions from the PRDP and the provincial government are designed to increase agricultural productivity of the province.
“Sa ating mga magsasaka, nawa’y maging open kayo sa ating consultation upang matugunan po ng kinauukulan at ma-improve po ang ating mga programa,” said Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 1 Director Crispulo G. Bautista during his opening remarks.
As cited by Dir. Bautista, 60% of the agricultural land area comes from the the Province of Pangasinan. The national agency looks forward into boosting crop harvests of the province and agricultural production.
“Pangalagaan po natin ang sariling atin dahil kung masagana po ang ating probinsya, masagana rin po ang ating buong rehiyon maging ang ating bansa, ” Dir. Bautista added to ensure the crop-growers that the national agency and the provincial government are hands-on in supporting the local farmers.
“Hindi po kami nahuhuli sa aming crop production dahil po sa ipinamamahagi nilang seeds, itong mga seeds na ito po ay libre. Napakalaking bagay po nitong tulong na nagmumula sa PRDP at sa ating probinsya, sa pamumuno ni Gov. Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino III,” said Mr. Romulo Bacolor, President of the AOGMPC.
