Lingayen, Pangasinan — Agriculture Department Region – 1 Director (RD) Lucrecio Alviar, Jr. lauded the province of Pangasinan, owing to its active engagement to the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) which stirs positive impact to the lives of Pangasinenses, mostly from farming communities.
“Pangasinan has the largest portfolio of PRDP infrastructure and enterprise sub-projects in Region 1,” RD Alviar disclosed during the North Luzon cluster meeting of the 8th World Bank (WB) Implementation Support Mission held on June 7 at Monarch Hotel in Calasiao.
Alviar, head of the PRDP – Regional Project Coordination Office (RPCO) noted that included in the said portfolio are I-BUILD projects: rehabilitation of the Gonzales – San Juan farm-to-market road in Umingan; and the construction of Oraan bridge with approaches, and construction of municipal warehouse with multi-purpose drying pavement in Manaoag.
In the country, Pangasinan is granted 7 infrastructure sub-projects worth Php581.94-M; while the province has the most number of enterprise sub-projects in the region (36) worth Php60.14-M., which is second highest in the country.
Representing Governor Amado I. Espino III during the cluster meeting was Vice Governor (VG) Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim Jr. who took the opportunity to thank WB executives for granting funding to various PRDP projects in the province.
In giving his viewpoints regarding the PRDP, VG Calimlim raised the inquiry to simplify the processing of papers to avail of the PRDP grant.
Ms. Frauke Jungbluth, team leader of WB’s implementation support mission, responded to the query on PRDP processing in a positive note, as she expressed concern on the crucial aspects of PRDP projects — which are already completed, while some are bound for completion.
“As the PRDP projects near completion, it is another challenge for us in terms of the sustainability part, particularly on how to maintain the projects,” Jungbluth said.
The WB team was toured at PRDP (I-REAP) facilities in Alcala and Alaminos City prior to the cluster meeting. Site visits in (I-BUILD) facilities in Umingan, and Manaoag are scheduled on June 8.
