LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) bestowed a total of P34,489,860 financial grant to the province of Pangasinan for the implementation of Dietary Supplementation Program (DSP) for pregnant women in the province.
Ma. Eileen B. Blanco, NNC – Regional Office 1 Nutrition Program Coordinator, awarded the cheque to the provincial executives led by Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico B. Rosario, Provincial Administrator Nimrod S. Camba, and Provincial Health Office (PHO) Chief Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa S. De Guzman on May 21 at the Capitol Building.
The DSP is a program of the Department of Health (DOH) and the NNC that seeks to provide health and nutrition services for pregnant women.
In 2018, the provincial board passed a resolution authorizing Governor Amado I. Espino, III to enter and sign a memorandum of agreement with the NNC to fully support the program of the national government in ensuring the holistic development of a child in the province.
Blanco disclosed that Pangasinan is the lone province in Region 1, which received the financial grant for the implementation of the DSP.
Blanco noted that DSP will be primarily implemented in four localities in the province, such as: Umingan, Bayambang, Alaminos City and Urdaneta City.
As such, this will backstop the implementation of the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), which focuses on the first 1,000 days of a child (from pregnancy up to the child’s second birthday).
“Malaki ang possibility na kapag healthy ang isang ina habang nagbubuntis, magiging healthy rin ang baby sa pagkapanganak,” explained Blanco noting that the main objective of the program is to prevent malnourishment among children
Dr. De Guzman stressed that this program is also in support to the Buntis Congress, a regular program of the provincial government, which promotes healthy and safe motherhood.
Also present during the brief ceremony were: EECD F1K Provincial Coordinator Helen Joy A. Bugaling, Provincial Treasurer Marilou E. Utanes, Provincial Information Officer Orpheus M. Velasco and Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Cielo E. Almoite.
