LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Aiding various Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) family associations in Pangasinan through entrepreneurial opportunities, eight municipalities will soon open rice retail stores through Provincial Government of Pangasinan’s Bigasang-Bayani Livelihood Project.

Bigasang-Bayani is a joint livelihood support undertaking of provincial government through its Bantay Barangay, Tulong-Hanapbuhay Program and Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) under its Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program.

Leading the ceremonial awarding of the livelihood grant on November 19 at the Pangasinan Employment Services Office (PESO) Compound, Governor Amado I. Espino pledged strong support to this livelihood support program.

As such, the provincial chief executive bared that the provincial government is planning to expand Bigasang-Bayani project and add a variety of other livelihood ventures such as in agriculture.

Governor Espino urged the eight OFW family association recipients to run their rice retailing ventures with care and further enrich the livelihood assistance of the provincial government.

The eight recipients of the Bigasang-Bayani Livelihood Project are, as follows: Alaminos City OFW & Family Association, Anda OFW Family Association, Asingan OFW and Family Association, Basista OFW Family Association, Bugallon OFW Family Association, Dasol OFW Association, San Quintin OFW Family Association and Sison OFW Family Association.

The grant, with DOLE shouldering 80 percent, and with the provincial government sharing 20 percent amounting to a total of Php2,627,405 for the eight rice retail stores’ stocks, equipment, and other miscellaneous fees as well as rice stocks.

It can be learned that the first batch of Bigasang-Bayani Project was launched in three rice-retailing stores in the municipalities of Mangaldan, San Jacinto, Manaoag in June 2017.
