LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – “Just like in life, challenges in sports must always bring out the best in you.”

This was pointed out by Governor Amado I. Espino, III in his speech during the opening ceremonies of Pangasinan Division II Sports Meet 2018 held at the Mangaldan Central School on October 25.

In saying this, Governor Espino also reiterated to the players that they must compete in the spirit of sportsmanship, fair play and above all, to foster respect with co-players all throughout the game.

Recounting his experiences as a sports buff himself, the provincial chief executive urged athletes to hone their sports prowess and never let setbacks shatter their dreams.

Hence, Governor Espino urged coaches and parents to further support the aspirations of their players not only to bring home victory, but also, to become a better person even outside the sports arena.

“Ang magandang kinabukasan ng ating mga estudyante ay magbubunga ng magandang kinabukasan ng ating mahal na probinsya ng Pangasinan,” Governor beamed with pride as he affirmed provincial government’s commitment in supporting the youth.

On the other hand, Schools Division Superintendent Atty. Donato B. Balderas, Jr. said that such sports competition is a venue of inculcating a good outlook in life of students.

Atty. Balderas futher noted that this also serves as their preparation to come up with a team to compete in the upcoming Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet 2019.

Challenging the athletes to bring back the championship title in R1AA, Delia Hufana-Patalud, public schools district supervisor and who serves as overall chairman in this year’s Division II sports meet, urged all players to give their best shot to attain the top spot.

With over 2,000 delegates from 22 municipalities, athletes clash for supremacy in the following sporting events: athletics, arnis, archery, badminton, basketball, baseball, billiards, chess, dance sports, football, futsal, gymnastics, softball, sepak takraw, pencak silat, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, wushu, swimming and boxing.

 

Also present during the opening ceremonies were: board members of the fourth district Liberato Z. Villegas and Jeremy Agerico B. Rosario.

The awarding ceremony of four-day sports meet is on October 28 at the Mangaldan Central School.
